Get In a Christmas Mood with 'aka' at The Hill Country Community Theatre!HCCT is proud to present In a Christmas Mood on December 20 and 21, 2005. This is the second HCCT production for the Austin-based musical showgroup, aka. Their first performance at HCCT in the summer of 2005 was a musical review of the 40s and 50s, Big Band to Be-Bop. Now our guests have the opportunity to see this group perform once again.
Aka is a collective of dedicated performers who just really like to sing, dance and make music. Cathy Rose, the groups founder, has experience in musical theater in the Austin area, has acted in a UT film and has done commercials. Sue Sewell brings a background of musical theater from her hometown of Snyder, Texas, as well as numerous performances in Austin. Gayle Kahler has also performed in community theater, both as a dancer and in the chorus. Cathy, Sue and Gayle have combined their talents to create the choreography for the groups various shows. Mark King sang many years in a performing choir and brings a wealth of talent to aka, including sound enhancements and set design. Jerry Don Landers has been a backstage singer for major productions in the Austin area, is a long-time member of a community choir, and plays several instruments. Boyd Lawrence came to aka after several performances in Gilbert & Sullivan shows. He and his wife also perform at various venues in the Austin area. Jim Baker has a wide variety of experience including performances in musical and dramatic theaters in this country and abroad, played drums and sang in various bands abroad and in the U.S., sung in many choirs as well as barbershop quartets, and has done radio commercials. The groups newest member, Barbara Calderaro, is also a member of a female barbershop group, a female singing trio and sings occasionally with a local band. She has performed with a rock band and in piano lounges in the "Big Apple" in the past.
In a Christmas Mood will most certainly put you in the spirit of the season. The show is upbeat with many great new numbers, yet it also includes a spattering of everyones favorites, such as Let it Snow, Its Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas, White Christmas, and Do You Hear What I Hear, just to name a few. The show takes you from a snowy afternoon in the park straight to a festive celebration of friends, and even includes an appearance by the jolly old man, himself. Your entire family will be sure to leave the theater In A Christmas Mood.
