Step back to the 1940's at The Hill Country Community Theatre

(Cottonwood Shores, Tx.) The box office is open and everyone's preparing for a swinging good time at HCCT. All the buzz is about 1940's Radio Hour, the musical comedy written by Walton Jones. The show will open Thursday, February 9 with a complimentary wine and appetizer reception. Doors open at 6:45 with curtain at 7:30.

1940's Radio Hour is set in a small 5000 watt New York City radio station and focuses on a group of performers and their attempts to make it big in show business. The audience is taken on a nostalgic trip into 1940's America with the encroaching backdrop of World War II. You'll feel as if you are actually in the studio of the radio station as you enjoy 23 old time great radio favorites such as Ain't She Sweet, Blue Moon, Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, Old Black Magic and Kalamazoo. The show opens as it's time for the final live holiday broadcast of the Mutual Manhattan Variety Cavalcade at the WOV radio station in Times Square on December 21, 1942. Nothing seems to go quite right as the cast tries to conceal all of the disasters from "the studio audience" and all of the folks listening at home. There is the harassed producer who must cope with a drunk lead singer, a delivery boy who wants a chance in front of the mic, a second banana who dreams of singing a ballad and a trumpet playing sound effects man who chooses a fighter plane over Glenn Miller. The play is the perfect blend of comedy and sincerity and captures the spirit of a nation maintaining it's traditions in a time of war. This is a wonderful show for the entire family.

The show is directed by HCCT favorite, David Bend of Marble Falls. Familiar favorites on the stage will be Vickie Cody of Burnet as Ann Collier, Glen Bird of Burnet as B.J. Gibson, Preston Kirk of Spicewood as Lou Cohn, Kirk Tatum of Marble Falls as Johnny Cantone, Taylor Worthing of Marble Falls as Wally Ferguson, Gil Wulfson of Horseshoe Bay as Pops Bailey and Mike Morelli of Marble Falls as Neal Tilden. New to the stage but longtime volunteer Barbara Bend of Marble Falls plays DeDe Doubleman. Rounding out the cast are newcomers to HCCT David Horner of Horseshoe Bay as Clifton Feddington, Julia Hockenberry of Granite Shoals as Ginger Brooks, Gaye Lang of Meadowlakes as Geneva Lee Brown, Joe Mantheiy of Meadowlakes as Biff Baker, Phillip Reeves of Buchannan Dam as Stanley and Carla Weiser of Horseshoe Bay as Connie Miller. Sally Stemac of Kingsland is Stage Manager and Chandra Irwin of Marble Falls is Choreographer. Richard Golladay plays piano. Curtis Ashby is Production Manager and Wanda Jacobs will run lights.
