The second annual variety show and auction, Saturday Night Life, will return to the Hill Country Community Theatre (HCCT) stage in Cottonwood Shores on April 1, 2006. All proceeds from the show and auction will be donated to the American Cancer Societys Relay for Life.
Returning to the show, after much deliberating with Greyhound on them unused miles, Cousin Willie Ray (Larry Elkins), everyone's favorite cousin, and now the mayor of Rooster Poot, Arkansas, will be taking the stage again to head up the festivities. Larry has previously toured with the Grand Ole Opry and has performed in Branson, Missouri and at the Llano, Mason and Burnet Country Oprys.
Big Lloyd Dalton will also be returning this year. He has previously performed at the Llano, Mason and Burnet Country Oprys and will be singing a few old country favorites. Lloyd has opened shows for such country greats as Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, Mel Tillis and Web Pierce. He has also made appearances on the Louisiana Hayride, the Big D Jamboree and the Nashville Network.
Half and Half, a quartet spin-off of the Hill Country Blenders Barbershop Chorus, will contribute their pleasing harmonies as well. The Blenders chorus has previously performed at numerous events in the Hill Country and is preparing for The Annual Good Times Show to be held June 3rd at the Marble Falls High School auditorium.
New to the HCCT stage, singer/songwriter Beth Williams will be performing some of her latest gospel inspirations. In 2001, Beths album In This Old House was voted one of Austins top ten albums. In 1988, Beth nationally charted three songs from her first album, First Class, and was nominated by the Academy of Country Music for Best New Female Vocalist of the Year.
Also new to the show, Elliott Fikes and Soul Serenade will add a little variety and a lot of soul with their wide range of musical talents. Elliot is a master entertainer, singer/saxophonist who has previously toured and recorded with such musical legends as Little Anthony and the Imperials, the Shirelles and the Coasters. The band will be performing at the Marble Falls Bluebonnet Blues Festival on April 2, 2006.
Singer/songwriter Joe Bray will provide his own classic country music sound. Joe has a loyal following in the local community and can be seen every Wednesday at Rio Vista (formerly Marty McFlys) in Horseshoe Bay.
Contemporary singer/songwriter Noah Watson of Austin will also be joining the show this year. Noah has previously performed with Austins 6th and Groove and singer/songwriter Django Walker. Last year, Noah made a solo acoustic tour of the nation singing several songs that will appear on Live Oak Declines upcoming album to be released in May 2006.
Cheryl Crabtree, our featured comedian, will appear as Bucille Snotgrass of Squash Holler, Texas. Cheryl has appeared at the Llano Country Opry and has previously worked with such country greats as Kitty Wells, Floyd Tillman, John Conlee, Ferlin Husky and Willie Nelson.
Local favorites, the Marble Falls High School Starlettes, will perform a synchronized dance routine. The Starlettes, under the direction of Ms. Cristi Gilpin, regularly perform at MFHS football and basketball games and are currently practicing for their annual Spring Show/Mr. Mustang Pageant to be held April 29, 2006.
Other dancers appearing in the show include Rachel Hurley and Emily Larsen of the Jazzettes. Rachel and Emily are both currently members of the University of Texas Escape Dance Company and have performed previously in numerous Austin ballets.
Saturday Night Life will also include both live and silent auctions. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for silent auction viewing/bidding with pianist Debbie Maxwell providing the lobby entertainment. Refreshments, Relay for Life luminaries and raffle tickets for two round trip Southwest Airlines tickets will be sold in the lobby both before the show and during the intermission. CDs of the various entertainers will also be available at those times. Auction items include a Blue Lake Golf Club package for four, a weekend getaway at the Horseshoe Bay Marriott, lunch at the Blue Bonnet Café, a Rockhoppers party for six, and Coach Car washes to name only a few.
Showtime is at 7:30 p.m. All tickets will be sold in advance for a $15 donation to the American Cancer Society. Tickets are limited and a sellout performance is anticipated. Anyone attending the show will be eligible for a two-for-one discount when purchasing tickets for either the May 10th or May 17th performances of the HCCTs production of Do Not Go Gentle.
