Hill Country Community Theatre Season '08-'09

Leading Ladies by Ken Ludwig- Sept. 18th - Oct.5th

Two English actors Max and Leo find themselves so down on their luck that they are performing “Scenes from Shakespeare” on the Moose Lodge circuit in the Amish country of Pennsylvania. When they hear that an old lady in York, Pa. is about to die and leave her fortune to her two long lost English nephews, they resolve to pass themselves off as her beloved relatives and get the cash. The trouble is when they get there they find out the relatives aren't nephews but nieces! Romantic entanglements and mistaken identities abound in this hilarious comedy by the author of Lend Me a Tenor.

Driving Miss Daisy by Alfred Uhry- Nov. 13th - Nov. 23rd

A Pulitzer prize winning drama that affectionately covers the twenty-five year relationship between a wealthy, strong-willed Southern matron and her equally indomitable black chauffeur, Hoke. Both employer and employee are outsiders, Hoke because of the color of his skin and Miss Daisy because she is Jewish in a WASP dominated society. It is only when age and time take their toll that the two fully realize that they've been friends and kindred spirits all along.

Something's Afoot by J. McDonald, D. Vos, and R. Gerlach-Feb. 19th - March 8th

This musical comedy murder mystery is a spoof of the whodunit genre which takes a strong satirical poke at Agatha Christie murder mysteries as well as at many musical styles of past years. Ten people are stranded in an isolated English country estate during a raging thunderstorm. One by one they are picked off by cleverly fiendish devices. The bodies begin to pile up in the library as the survivors frantically race to discover the identity and motivation of the cunning culprit.“An engaging, funny, refreshing original musical.” New York Post

Barefoot in the Park by Neil Simon- April 23rd - May 3rd

Simon is at his best in this romantic comedy that combines love and laughs. Newlyweds Corrie and Paul Bratter are having a tough time adjusting to life in a minuscule fifth-floor walk-up apartment in a Greenwich Village brownstone. Stuffed-shirt Paul is a hard working young attorney just starting his practice, while spontaneous bride Corrie is determined to create a romantic environment in a one room with no heat, a hole in the skylight and oddball neighbors. Will young love survive without an elevator?

Once Upon a Mattress by M. Rodgers, M. Barer, J. Thompson, D. Fuller, and M. Barer- July 16th - Aug. 2nd

If you thought you knew the story of “The Princess and the Pea” you may be in for a walloping surprise! Did you know, for instance, that Princess Winnifred actually swam the moat to reach Prince Dauntless the Drab? Or, in fact, it wasn't the pea at all that caused the princess a sleepless night? Carried on a wave of wonderful songs, by turns hilarious and raucous, romantic and melodic, this rollicking spin on the familiar classic of royal courtship and comeuppance provides for some side-splitting shenanigans. Chances are you'll never look at fairy tales quite the same way again.
