HCCT-03-16 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

HCCT AUDITIONS FOR DEATHTRAP
AT 7 P.M., TUESDAY, SEPT. 2

Five-person play promises twists, turns, shocks and laughter.

COTTONWOOD SHORES, TEXAS (Aug. 22, 2003) -- The Hill Country Community Theatre will hold auditions at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 2, for Deathtrap, playwright Ira Levin’s suspense thriller. Scripts for the five-character play are available for checkout now.

Deathtrap, a popular success for many years, is an ingeniously constructed thriller combining two priceless ingredients – gasp-inducing thrills and spontaneous laughter. The drama-comedy, first produced in 1978, also was made into a movie.

Beverly Crawford-McIntire of Horseshoe Bay will guest direct the two-act play, which will run from Oct. 16-26. (The box office opens Oct. 6.) Ms. McIntire, made her debut on the HCCT stage in the role of Aunt Ev in “The Miracle Worker” in April..

Bev, a native Texan who recently relocated to the Hill Country, began acting 22 years ago in Dallas and has directed many plays, having been the Children’s Creative Director at the Trinity Arts Theatre in Dallas. She studied film and television acting with Lou Diamond-Phillips at Adam Roarke’s Film Acting School and has appeared in many feature films and TV series.

While in Florida, she created, produced, directed and acted in The Florida Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre Players and performed at Walt Disney World and Universal Studios.

The storyline involves a playwright known for thrillers who has written several flops. He devises a plan, with his wife’s help, to collaborate with a student of one of his writing seminars. The lengths he goes to improve his fortune will lead the audiences through spellbinding twists, turns and sudden shocks that tumble forth between the laughter.

The play has six scenes, requiring three men and two women.

∑ Sidney Bruhl, in his fifties, a successful writer of mystery plays struggling to overcome a dry spell ;

∑ Myra Bruhl, in her forties, the playwright’s wife and his biggest fan;

∑ Clifford Anderson, in his late twenties, a budding playwright who works in an urban welfare office;

∑ Helga Ten Dorp, age 45 to 65, a Dutch psychic visiting America and living in a neighbor’s cottage near the Bruhls;

∑ Porter Milgrim, age 50 to 65, the Bruhl family attorney.

The playhouse is located at 4003 FM 2147 West, across from Bob’s Exxon and at the entrance to Cottonwood Shores, between Marble Falls and Horseshoe Bay. The script is available for checkout. Call the director at 830-596-0100 on weekdays.

HCCT has an open casting policy. No experience is required. All parts require some basic stage movement. Auditions will consist of cold readings. The HCCT Audition Policy does not allow pre-casting.
